Spring sketchbook

Retro spring series

In this series I attempted to keep with my ideas on the aesthetics of past decades and try and decode what may have been seen in the fifties as design sense.I have used the thought bubble because more than purely the visual, a discourse containing post modern characters might comment on what type of stresses lead to creative solutions and the way people can reinvent themselves in the present age. 2009

February Sketch Book

Drawing these I was not bothered nor concerned as much with subject matter as I had been as in searching for the seventies aesthetic in painting. I found that structure had more to say than motif.

Series Three

I wanted to be in the work and not be distracted on how or why I should draw. As in the seventies it was great liberation and hard won freedoms. I want my relatedness to a model or subject to reflect energies of transcended release.

Series Two

I was searching for a subject and during my search I felt drawn to a retro seventies feel or what I contrived as a design aesthetic wholly sited in decoration of objects i n bric- a-brac shops. My journey continues in trying to create a mood that belonged to that time that for me held great changes in the way society was going to function and be influenced to the present day.

Series One

A series of sketches from my October sketch book 2008.  Integration in designing drawings allows me to prepare for further painting.  Be it abstract or taken from life.
